Books and Historical Reenactment: Together since 1605
Hello, my name is Kristen, unless we are at a Society for Creative Anachronism event, in which case my name is the Honorable Lady Bertrande Fresneau. I think I grew up to join the SCA because I read Don Quixote, unabridged, for the first time when I was twelve after seeing Man of La Mancha the summer before. Both were defining moments of my life, hence the name of the page. (Also, I'm quite short.) If you remember, when Alonso Quixana was not being crazy and trying to turn himself into a knight called Don Quixote from an idealized version of the past, he was reading books. When I am not dressing up like a sixteenth century Frenchwoman, I am a librarian in the information services services department of my system's Main library. I am the librarian who keeps people on the phone after telling them that The Winds of Winter is not out yet, convincing them to let me request something by Robin Hobb for them. But as much as I love doing things like that, I still have to wait for the right request to come along before I can recommend a book. Obviously I need even more places to talk about them.
