A distant cousin, gossip columnist Simon Montfort, helps her concoct a plan to infiltrate her father's other family's circle (for a confrontation, or revenge, or acknowledgement- Rachel's goals are changing and believably uncertain as she grapples with her feelings of betrayal) by introducing her as Vera Morton and fudging the details as to how exactly they are related. She becomes popular among the Bright Young Things and befriends Simon's cousin CeCe, who becomes her pathway to her half-sister Olivia and her fiance. But the further she makes her way into this new world, the more hidden sorrows and old wounds she discovers.
The dialogue in this book is brilliant, witty, and sharp. The plot initially seems rather predictable, but takes several unexpected turns as it develops. And if I suspected where it landed in the end, it may have been largely due to another book I read recently which involves similar elements. In any case, this story is a delight.
Overall: A
