Although once the dead body appears, all the family secrets and danger one could want quickly follows, it takes rather a long time to get there. It's around a two hundred page book and the body appears around page fifty. You might think of this book as the first part of a true serial where it comes to the more sensationalist plot that the corpse kicks off, while each romance is a self-contained story in the more typical model of romance series, featuring a new couple for each book. If you like Clem and Rowley, if you can enjoy watching them figuring out what their relationship is going to be, and if you can appreciate the sheer nerdiness of considering what exactly makes some of the taxidermied mounts that Rowley has acquired from other sources atrocities vs. what he tries to capture in his work as art, like I did, then you'll love this book. If you don't enjoy the deliberate character development and are here for the suspense, you'll probably get bored waiting for it.
Overall: B+
